Hi, I'm Amy, and I love helping people feel better in their bodies!
I began my health and bodywork studies in the early 2000's, and while finishing up a nutrition degree from UC Davis, I had the amazing opportunity to spend about a year in a Bowen Therapy mentorship with Christine Jones, a student of Milton Albrect and Ossie Rentch (one of Tom Bowen's six students). It was a very advanced and thorough osteopathic-type training.
I attended the Massage Therapy Institute of Davis, CA from 2010-2017 where I was fortunate to study with some amazing people and teachers from Ashland to Nevada City to the Bay area in complimentary fields I adore and feel deep connection with, such as Ortho-Bionomy®, cranial sacral therapy, medical massage, Tui Na, Thai massage, and Lomi Lomi. I've also completed advanced trainings from well-respected teachers in Trager® and kundalini yoga (and took a deep dive into cult studies after this so I could be more trauma-informed).
I started my own Bowen Therapy practice in early 2011, and from 2014-2017 I founded and ran a donation-based healing arts collective on Nissenan land (Sacramento, CA). During this time, I began to adapt and evolve traditional Bowen therapy (1950-80s Australia) into more of a flow; decreasing the 2-minute breaks to just a full breath or two, using movement as a way to explore connections with other parts and allow for broader myofascial release, and adding dynamic kinesthetic elements to increase whole body integration.
In 2020-2021 I began also offering massage and somatic therapy. With these therapies I'm able to help with a wide array of body issues (see FAQs for list).
In 2023, I trained a couple of already amazing bodyworkers to take over my very full time practice in Sacramento, so I could move to my dream location (here!). You can now find me in community, and continuing to stay up with the latest on therapy and healing. I strive to be science-led and trauma-informed.
Some major influences in my work include Susan McConnell, Brad Wathen, Dr. Arielle Schwartz, Frank Anderson MD, Gabor Maté MD, bell hooks, adrienne marie brown, and of course my colleagues, clients, and kids. I'm also big into learning and practicing transformative justice work, permaculture, and dance.
